TIP: I did a song's worth of sit ups today with about a 10 second break between sets of 10. My great friend Mark who is a personal trainer at the good life in Hamilton gave me great advice a few years ago. He suggested that when you are doing sit up you should find a spot on the ceiling and focus on that while moving your hands up your thigh to your knee. This will ensure you are actually using your stomach muscles rather than back muscles to do the sit ups. I do it and it works great!!
Also another quote to ponder at the new year is upon us: "who has a WHY to live for can bear almost any HOW" --Nietzsche.
Jillian Michael sresponds perfectly ....
So true. Weight loss is hard. So how do you tolerate the "HOW" of it? The answer, "WHY" is weight loss worth it. Example: are skinny jeans worth passing on donuts? Is avoiding heart disease worth 30 min of exercise? With the new year upon us mediate on your "WHY". Then begin educating yourself and acting on the "HOW".

I like to think that my "why" is an upcoming trip to costa rica(a.k.a. getting into a bathing suit), but in reality I know that I want to be healthier and mobile for longer as I enter the second half of my century next birthday. Today is my first trip back to Goodlife. Hayley's coming with - she'll take on the kick-boxing class while I do cardio and weights. Emily - how do you do your couch to 5K circuits? threadmill?
ReplyDeleteI do the treadmill (5.0 for running and 3.0 for walking_. Have you seen the www.runningintoshape.com it lets you download an mp3 file and put it right onto your ipod/mp3 player and you follow it week by week and it has up to date music and cues you when you should run and walk and it works awesome! There are other ones too but the runningintoshape one allows you to follow it with decent music.
ReplyDeleteDr. Oz had been very interesting this week. He talked about the seven deadly sins today. #1 is not stretching in the morning and as I used to do that and don't anymore I will reinstate it tomorrow. #2 is going without breakfast - he demonstrated the hormonal affect of no breakfast and it was compelling. We have taped them on the HD if you want to watch the programs. I am off to water running tomorrow. Thanks for the inspiration everyone.
